ANGKLUNG CULTURE OF INDONESIA
   CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION

1.1             Background
Culture or cultures derived from the Sanskrit buddhayah, which is the plural form of buddhi (mind or reason) is defined as matters relating to the mind and human reason.
Culture can also be interpreted as an overall lifestyle, culture is complex, abstract, and spacious. Many aspects of the communicative behaviors imposed their culture. The elements of socio-cultural spread and cover a lot of human social activities. Thus, budayalah which provides a framework for a coherent organizing one's activities and enable it to predict the behavior of others.
Many cultures flourish in Indonesia. Indonesia is a country which has many in cultures from Sabang to Merauke, and also has the characteristics of different cultures to distinguish among regions. One of the preserved culture can be found in the Bandung West Java Indonesia located in Bandung Padasuka Road. In this place, there is a place of cultural workshop, which is the venue, the center of the bamboo crafts, and musical instruments from bamboo workshop. In addition, Saung Angklung Udjo has a purpose are educational laboratories and learning centers to preserve Sundanese culture and especially angklung.

1.2             Problem Formulation
In conducting this research, these are two problem formulated, they are :
1. What is Saung Angklung Udjo?
2. What are the history and the development of Saung Angklung Udjo ?

1.3 Objectives
The objectives of this research are :
1. To describe what Saung Angklung Udjo is.
2. To describe what the history and the development of Saung Angklung Udjo are .

2.1  Definition of Saung Angklung Udjo

Saung Angklung Udjo are a piece of the story of how the wealth of local culture can survive and acculturate with the pressure of globalization. Founded in 1966 by Alm.Udjo Ngalagena and Uum Sumiati as wife,as an art studio and production center angklung. Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) has now developed into a cultural tourist attraction in West Java.
Located on the basis of the spirit Udjo Ngalagena (1929-2001) to preserve Sundanese culture, SAU is an art studio as a place of performing arts, laboratory and training ground Sundanese art and culture. SAU is an evidence of how cultural values are maintained to produce a variety of benefits for the surrounding communities.
SAU is a style of world wealth that continues to give color and meaning to human life. Located in the eastern city of Bandung, Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) is a place where we still can feel the freshness of nature, birds singing and the joy of children.
 Come, experience and enjoy the unique culture of Sunda at Saung Angklung Udjo.
Strains of Bamboo Grove is a sketch of the beauty of the Sunda earth. The rustling of bamboo leaves greet the ear, from the gate to the rear corner, the bamboo and bamboo. We deliver fresh air to feel the atmosphere of tradition, enjoying nature and diversity of tree species of bamboo.

2.2  The History and The Development of Saung Angklung Udjo
2.2.1 The History of Saung Angklung Udjo
Initial establishment of Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU), there is the story itself. With some difficulty, Udjo finally have a piece of land in Padasuka Road Bandung, where the SAU is now located. Saung Angklung Udjo initially only a narrow area with wells. In 1968, the first foreign tourists to visit the SAU. They were French tourists, amounting to 6 people.
Over time, the more people who visit the SAU. Until finally a narrow area that can no longer accommodate more guests. The show was eventually to be moved to a house located next to the SAU with a larger pages. And until finally Udjo expand ground in 1970 by 100 meters to the north of his home. Although SAU able to build a "luxury", Udjo believes that the simple and traditional that the high value in the eyes of foreign tourists. Manufacturing activities, training, and performance of this angklung eventually become the hallmark SAU. And angklung growing until now it can be proved from Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU). Alm. Udjo Ngalagena has a mission which is "You see a performance at Saung Angklung this one day show will be worldwide. We'll wait. " And it's really evident. Angklung is now global.
During this time, arts groups Saung Angklung Udjo is one of Sundanese traditional arts groups who often become ambassadors of Indonesian culture to various countries. Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) appeared to open a booth at the Indonesia Travel & Holiday Fair (ITHF) 2011 which took place in Central Park, Jakarta. The sight is rare because they were not used previously participated in the exhibition tour.
This year Saung Angklung Udjo indeed reproduce promos, massive promotion. Saung Angklung Udjo will often follow the exhibition. During this SAU word of mouth alone. SAU wish that there is awareness that not only belong to Jabar angklung course, but Indonesia Claims about Malaysia, so far Malaysia still 'look'. If we can not run mandate, UNESCO will revoke that determination. And they (Malaysia) who participate. Once time Malaysia invited SAU. When finished perform, the MC introduced the SAU from Malaysia. And the SAU group decided to go home.
And finally, Musical instruments angklung immediately confirmed by the UNESCO as world cultural heritage native to Indonesia on November 18, 2010 in Nairobi, Kenya.

3.1 Conclusion
Saung Angklung Udjo is a piece of the story of how the wealth of local culture can survive and acculturate with the pressure of globalization. And angklung growing until now it can be proved from Saung Angklung Udjo (SAU) for SAU especially founders of Alm. Udjo Ngalagena has a mission which is "You see a performance at Saung Angklung this one day show will be worldwide. We'll wait. " And it's really evident. Angklung is now global.

3.2  Suggestion
The advice I would tell, we as citizens of Indonesia should maintain, love and help to preserve the culture which is owned by our beloved country which is Indonesia. Do not let one of our cultures to be taken or even acknowledged by other countries.
